Japanese celebrate May 5 as “Children’s day”, which is one of the national holidays.
The another name of “Children’s day” is “Boy’s festival”.
We hang up the carp streamers called “Koinobori” on Children’s day.
Parents display “Koinobori” hoping that their children will grow up healthy and strong.
”Koinobori” is a symbol of a family. A big carp is a father, next mom, and children are below.
An event to hoist giant carp streamers is being held in Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture, known as a production center of carp streamers.
What a surprise, this carp streamer is 100 meters long and weighs 330 kg, and can be seen on the banks of the Tone River. If you are in the neighborhood, please stop by.
Also, at Kamigamo Shrine near KOTO, a horse race called “KURABEUMA” is held at the birthplace of horse racing, which originated in the imperial court.
This ritual began in 1093, when a horse race held at court was moved to the shrine to pray for peace and a bountiful harvest,
The horse race ceremony is held from 13:00, and the race begins around 14:00 on the lawn.
The riders are dressed in bugaku costumes, and the right and left sides of the horses run in pairs to see how fast they can run.
The two horses are separated by one horse length, and the winner is the horse in front if the gap between them widens, and the winner is the horse behind if the gap between them narrows.
You are free to watch, so please stop by.
So, may all the children of the world grow up healthy and happy....
