Parasol (Higasa)—CALABASH PATTERN—RED & WHITE

$139.00

Shaped like an umbrella, parasols (higasa) are used to shield the carrier from the sun's harmful UV rays during the summer months. These portable sun shades also serve as stylish accessories that compliment both traditional and contemporary outfits.

Furoshiki is a square cloth used to wrap or carry things. We designed a unique and modern style higasa using beautiful Furoshiki fabric with traditional Japanese motifs. Each is made by craftsmen in Kyoto, Japan.

This one features a calabash (Hyotan) vine pattern recognizable by its gourd-shaped fruits. It is regarded as a symbol of good fortune and victory. In Japan, the color red represents happiness, strength, and passion. White symbolizes purity, truth, new beginnings, or returning to one's roots.
